SUB,JECT: PORT GRANBY BRIDGE
RECOMMENDATIONS:
It is respectfully recommended that the General Purpose and
Administration Committee recommend to Council the following:
1. THAT this report be received; and
2. THAT the replacement of the Port Granby Bridge and the improvement
of the approach roads be considered during the 1989 budget
discussions; and
3. THAT a copy of this report be fowarded to Margaret M. Elliott,
R.R. #3, Newcastle, LOA 1HO.
REPORT
1.01 BACKGROUND
1.02 At a regular meeting of Council held on Monday, January 11, 1988,
Resolution #C-18-88:
"THAT the communication dated December 30, 1987, from
Mrs. Margaret Elliott, R.R. #3, Newcastle, Ontario, LOA 1HO,
requesting that Council review the problems associated with
the narrow Port Granby Bridge, and take steps to remedy the
situation be received;
AND THAT the correspondence be referred to the Director of
Works for review and investigation and a report to the
General Purpose and Administration Committee;
AND FURTHER THAT Mrs. Margaret Elliott be advised of

1.03 A copy of the letter from Margaret M. Elliott is attached.

2.01 COMMENTS
2.02 The Port Granby Bridge is a 4.6 mt single span concrete box
culvert with a 300 mm deep concrete deck slab. The wearing
surface of the culvert is surface treated.
2.03 The culvert accommodates only single lane traffic and the
approach roads are surface treated.
2.04 The surface treated wearing surface is in poor condition with
extensive patching and potholes.
2.05 The surface treated approach roads are in poor condition with
numerous potholes.
2.06 visibility approaching the culvert is poor.
3.01 RECOMMENDATIONS
3.02 It is, therefore, recommended, that the replacement of the
culvert and improvements to the road be considered during the
1989 Budget discussions.
