SUB,JECT: CONSTRUCTION OF SIDEWALK
TO NEW ARENA FACILITY
RECOMMENDATIONS:
It is respectfully recommended that the General Purpose and
Administration Committee recommend to Council the following:
1. THAT this report be received; and,
2. THAT the construction of a sidewalk to the new arena be considered

in the 1989 Budget.
REPORT
1.0 BACKGROUND
1.1 At a regular meeting of Council held on January 25, 1988, Council
passed Resolution #C-72-88 as follows:
THAT the Director of Public Works be requested to review the
need and possible location for the construction of a sidewalk
to serve the new arena facility from the downtown area; and
THAT recommendations including funding and location be made in
a report to the General Purpose and Administration Committee
prior to budget discussions;
THAT the Director provide cost estimates and that said estimates
be included for consideration in the 1988 Budget proposal.

2.0 COMMENT
2.1 A preliminary investigation of the construction of a sidewalk
from the existing sidewalk on Highway No.2 to the Arena Facility
suggests that the preferred location of the sidewalk is on the
south side of Highway #2.
2.2 The construction of this sidewalk was considered in the preparation
of the 1988 Budget. It was removed from the preliminary budget in
consultation with the Chief Administrative Officer, Mr. Larry Kotseff
and the Treasurer, Mr. John Blanchard, because of the various development
possibilities which exist in this general area which would require the
extension of a sanitary sewer on the south side of Highway No.2.
3.0 RECOMMENDATION
3.1 It is recommended that the design of this sidewalk be completed
in 1988 and the construction of the sidewalk be considered in the
1989 Budget.
