REPORT TO THE HYDRO LIAISON COMMITTEE MEETING OF JULY 7, 1983.
REPORT NO. WD-1-83
SUBJECT: RECONSTRUCTION OF HOLT ROAD BETWEEN
HIGHWAY 401 AND BASELINE ROAD.
It is respectfully recommended:
1. That the Hydro Liaison Committee request the Town of
Newcastle to defer reconstruction of Holt Road between
Highway 401 and Baseline Road a further year; and,
2. That in the meantime, discussions take place between
Hydro and Town Staff with respect to timing of interim
improvements and ultimate construction requirements;
and,
3. That a recommendation be made to the Hydro Liaison
Committee and the Council of the Town of Newcastle as a
result of such discussions.
REPORT
The Town of Newcastle has budgeted for 1983 Reconstruction of
Holt Road between Highway 401 and Baseline Road with project
costs of approximately $300,000 to be recovered from Ontario
Hydro. -%;

Recently, informal discussions have been held between Hydro and
Town Staff which would suggest that deferral of the
reconstruction project may be desirable. Since Holt Road has
not deteriorated to any great degree as a result of Hydro
generated traffic, it is recommended: firstly, that the imminent
construction project be deferred for at least another year; and
secondly, that discussions take place which will lead to an
ultimate plan for interim maintenance and eventual
reconstruction of Holt Road.
