ENG., DIRECTOR HAMPTON,ONTARIO TEL.(416)263.2231 LOB 1J0 987.5039 REPORT TO THE GENERAL PURPOSE AND ADMINISTRATION COMMITTEE MEETING OF MARCH 7, 1983. REPORT NO: WD-17-83. SUBJECT: ROAD INSPECTION TOUR - 1983. RECOMMENDATION: It is respectfully recommended : 1 . That this report be received; and , 2. That the 1983 Road Inspection Tour be arranged for Thursday, April 14th and Friday, April 15th , 1983, and that all Members of Council , and the Press , be invited to attend; and , 3. That Members of Council advise the Public Works Department of any areas of concern or particular interest, before April 7, 1983 , in order that they may be included in the itinerary of the Tour. BACKGROUND: For the past number of years it has been the practice of the Public Works Department to arrange a tour of various roads and sites within the Municipality so that Members of Council may be familiarized with particular problems , locations of proposed construction and areas where improvements could be considered in the future. ° V WD-17-83 - 2 The annual tour has proved to be both popular and useful as it gives all those attending the opportunity to see all areas of the Town , and better appreciate the problems presented in the Department's efforts to provide maximum service within the constraints of the annual budget. REPORT: It is intended that all major (proposed) construction projects be included in the itinerary for the 1983 Road Inspection Tour, for example: Darlington Area: Holt Road (Ontario Hydro) Preston Road Holt/Robinson/Drew Road Toulley Road Ferner Avenue , Mitchell 's Corners Ormiston Street , Hampton. Bowmanville Area: Mearns Avenue Crossing Baseline Road Scugog Street Village of Newcastle: King Street (Connecting Link) Mill Street Clarke Area: Golf Course Road 'Lovekin' Crossing Bridges , etc : Graham Creek Bridge Morgan 's Road Culvert 'Hale's ' Bridge. It would be most helpful if Members of Council would advise the Public Works Department of any specific areas of interest and/or concern , which they wish to have included on the Tour. It is pro- proposed that the route should take in roads (of any status) which WD-17-83 - 3 - have been the subject of reports to Council or calls to individual politicians , or have presented an ongoing problem insofar as maintenance is concerned. The second week in April is recommended as the best time for the Road Inspection Tour so that the results of winter conditions can be easily identified. Respectfully submitted , R.G. Dupuis , P. Eng. , Director of Public Works. February 24, 1983. t' : h
