ENG., DIRECTOR HAMPTON,ONTARIO TEL.(416)263-2231 LOB 1J0 987-5039 REPORT TO THE GENERAL PURPOSE AND ADMINISTRATION COMMITTEE MEETING OF JUNE 6, 1983. REPORT NO. : WD-55-83 SUBJECT: ROAD ALLOWANCE BETWEEN LOTS 26 & 27, CONCESSION 3, FORMER TOWNSHIP OF DARLINGTON, FROM A DISTANCE OF APPROXIMATELY 1.0 KM NORTH OF NASH ROAD (CONCESSION ROAD 3) TO 1.3 KM NORTHERLY. RECOMMENDATION: It is respectfully recommended: 1. That this report be received; and, 2. That the road allowance between Lots 26 & 27, Concession 3, former Township of Darlington, from a distance of approximately 1 .0 km north of Nash Road, (Concession Road 3) to 1.3 km northerly, be reassumed by the Town; and, 3. That the road be upgraded -to an acceptable gravel road standard; and, 4. That all costs for the upgrading be charged to the 1983 Works Maintenance Budget Accounts for Gravel and Resurfacing and Roadside Ditching. -7 . . .2 till, _ 2 _ BACKGROUND AND REPORT Mr. Ron Sheridan, owner tennant of approximately 160 acres of agricultural land situated in Lots 27 and 28, Concession 3, former Township of Darlington, has requested that the Public Works Department maintain the short section of road from approximately 1 .0 km north of Nash Road to 1.3 km north of Nash Road. The road is shown as Hancock Road on the Town Road Map. The farm house has existed on the property for many years and the road was maintained by the Town until the early 1970' s. At that time a fence placed on the road allowance hampered the turning of Town road maintenance equipment and Mr. Sheridan agreed to plow and grade the section of road along with his own driveway rather than relocate the fence. Mr. Sheridan has since relocated the conflicting fence and has agreed to provide a turn around area to facilitate Town road maintenance equipment. The cost to upgrade this section of road to a reasonable gravel standard would be $7,000.00. This work is subsidizable at fifty percent (50%) and the funds would be taken from the 1983 Works Maintenance Budget for Gravel Resurfacing and Roadside Ditching. It is, therefore, recommended that Council give approval to proceed with the necessary action to re-assume the road allowance and to upgrade the road to an acceptable gravel road standard.
