REPORT TO THE GENERAL PURPOSE AND ADMINISTRATION COMMITTEE
MEETING OF JUNE 6, 1983.
REPORT NO. : WD-53-83
SUBJECT: ASSUMPTION OF A PRIVATE ROAD AS A MUNICIPAL
ROAD IN LOT 18 OF CONCESSION 1, IN THE
FORMER TOWNSHIP OF CLARKE
RECOMMENDATION:
It is respectfully recommended that:
1. The private road in Lot 18 of Concession 1, in the
former Township of Clarke, being a road located
approximately two hundred and eighty-four (284) feet
south of Highway 2 and running easterly for four
hundred and ninety-six (496) feet, be assumed as part
of the Town's road system; and,
2. In assuming said road, the Town make no commitment to
provide any services other than normal road
maintenance; and,

3 The Town Solicitor be instructed to take the
necessary action to secure title to the said road;
and,
4. The owner of the road be advised of Council 's
decision in this matter.

REPORT
A private road allowance exists in Lot 18 of Concession 1,
of the former Township of Clarke. All maintenance and
servicing of the road is, at present, performed privately.
Although the road is owned by one person, all other abutting
property owners have a right-of-way over it.
On the annual road inspection tour by Council , the road in

question was reviewed and it was felt by some members of
Council that it should become part of the municipal road
system. Now, in the attached correspondence, the owner of
the road allowance is offering it to the Town. Since the
road is in reasonably good condition and provides access and
service to Town Taxpayers, it should become part of the Town
road system. Accordingly, the necessary action should be
taken to secure title to the private road running easterly,
from - .. e Road in Lot 18 of Concession 1, of the
former Township of Clarke.

Private Road
Dear Mr. Dupuis;
Further to our conversation of May 17th , 1983 , please find 'enclosed
a plan of the referenced property. The area bordered and shaded in
red is at present owned by my wife Karin Schlatter, but still
registered in her former married name.
We are interested in deeding a private road 66 ' -0" (sixty-six feet)
by 496 '-0" ( four-hundred and ninety-six feet) more or less to the
Town of Newcastle .
There are three houses on said road at present . It is a gravel road
with ditches on both sides and in reasonably good condition.
