REPORT TO THE GENERAL PURPOSE AND ADMINISTRATION COMMITTEE
MEETING OF APRIL 18, 1983.
REPORT NO. : WD-43-83
SUBJECT: SPEED LIMIT ON MAPLE GROVE ROAD
(RESOLUTION NUMBER GPA-300-83)
RECOMMENDATION:
It is respectfully recommended:
1. That this report be received; and,
2. That a copy of this report be forwarded to the
Durham Regional Police Force, and to Mr. W.
Hockett, for information.
BACKGROUND AND REPORT:

On April 5, 1983, Committee considered correspondence from
Mr. W. Hockett regarding the posted speed zones on Maple
Grove Road from Highway # 2 north to Nash Road, and by
Resolution # GPA-300-83, directed that the Public Works
Department investigate and report their findings.

A site inspection of Maple Grove Road from Highway # 2 north
to Nash Road confirmed that the southern portion is posted
at 60 km/hr. and the northern portion is posted at 80
km/hr., as outlined in Mr. W. Hockett's letter. It would
appear that since- a majority of the frontage on Maple Grove
Road is built up, a lower posted speed on the northern
section is warranted. Further investigation revealed that,
according to By-law 79-75, this entire section of Maple

Grove Road should have been posted at 60 km/hr.
It therefore becomes apparent that an amendment to the
existing by-law is not required. By By-law, the speed limit
is already established at 60 km/hr. , and signs will be
changed to reflect this.

Dear Mrs. Cowman:
Please take the necessary actions to amend the
speed limit by-law for Darlington Township road number 9
(Maple Grove Road) . The south half of the road is 60 km/h
and the north half is posted at 80 KM/h.
There are 27 house-holds and approximately 32
children, under 16 years of age residing on the north half
mile of this road. With the summer months approaching,
your assistance is required in this most urgent matter.
