REPORT NO. : WD® 63®83 SUBJECT: CONTRACT FOR CRUSHED GRAVEL RECOMMENDATION: It is respectfully recommended: 1. That this report be received; and, 2. That Staff be authorized to advertise tenders for the crushing and delivery of granular materials to the Town of Newcastle, in accordance with the 1982 Road Maintenance and Construction Budget; and, 3. That the supply of pit run gravel for crushing be obtained from the Kovacs Pit and the Reid Pit, at the unit prices quoted, as well as from the Town-owned Pit in Part Lot 16, Concession 2, former Township of Clarke. BACKGROUND AND REPORT Each year the Public Works Department calls tenders for the crushing and delivery of gravel , to be spread on Town roads, and stockpiled in the various Works Yards, as required. The gravel for crushing is obtained from local gravel pits, as close as possible to the construction site, in an attempt to minimize haulage costs. pk Ica s - 2 - It is anticipated that the Town will require approximately 60,000 tonnes of crushed gravel , with 20,000 tonnes being supplied from each of the three gravel pits. The major accounts to which the cost of the gravel will be charged are as follows: Gravel Patching 7209-0000-00316 Gravel Resurfacing 7209-0000-00317 Preston Road 7205-0000-00067 Robinson/Drew Road 7205-0000-00151 Golf Course Road 7205-0000-00290 Firner Avenue 7205-0000-00903 It is expected that the successful tenderer will commence crushing and delivery early in September, 1983.
