ACCEPTANCE OF SOUTH SERVICE ROAD - DARLINGTON PARK ROAD
RECOMMENDATIONS:
It is respectfully recommended:
1. That this report be received; and,
2. That the Town of Newcastle accept into its road system that portion of
of the South Service Road from Courtice Road westerly, approximately
1640 feet; and,
3. That the Ministry of Transportation and Communications District
Engineer, Port Hope District, be so advised.

BACKGROUND AND REPORT:
The Town of Newcastle Works Department received a request from the Ministry
of Transportation and Communications, Port Hope District, to assume by
Council resolution, the South Service Road realignment constructed under the
Ministry's contract to widen Highway 401 in 1980. Although the Town Public
Works Department has been providing our standard maintenance to this road
since its construction, staff were reluctant to recommend formal assumption
of this portion of road in view of certain deficiencies involving the
erosion of private property. These deficiencies have now been corrected by
the Ministry and the private property owners are satisfied.
It is, therefore, in order for the Town of Newcastle to formally accept this
portion of the South Service Road into its road system.
