REPORT #: WD -68 -86 FILE #: SUBJECT: SIDEWALK REPAIRS - WELLINGTON STREET RECOMMENDATIONS: It is respectfully recommended: 1. That this report be received; and, 2. That the section of sidewalk along the north side of Wellington Street from Temperance Street to Elgin Street be reconstructed in 1986; and, 3. That all costs associated with the reconstruction be assessed to the Public Works Account for Sidewalk Maintenance; and, 4. That all affected entrances be repaired in accordance with Town Policy for Entranceways. ....2 Page 2 Report No. WD -68 -86 A petition has been received from the residents of Wellington Street requesting that their driveways be resurfaced and advising of the need to repair the sidewalk between the limits of Elgin Street and Temperance Street. The request was referred to Public Works for review and report. In accordance with Town Policy for Entranceways, property owners are responsible for paving and maintaining the pavement on private driveways. However, where accesses are affected by the reconstruction of the road or sidewalk, the Town will reinstate, in kind, the area affected by the construction. Presently, the existing driveways are gravel with asphalt padding on the approach to the sidewalk. This section of sidwalk as stated in the petition is distorted and in a deteriorating condition. The walk is frequently used by the residents of Marnwood and could be considered difficult for pedestrian travel. As well, the sidewalk is a major feeder to the Central School and is deficient in width causing the boulevard area to be worn and disturbed. The sidewalk status report prepared in the summer of 1984 recommends spot repairs and resurfacing. In view of the continuing deterioration of the concrete and asphalt and the high volume use of this walk, it is recommended that complete reconstruction of the sidewalk on Wellington Street between Temperance Street and Elgin Street be initiated in 1986.
