In accordance with the 1985 Public Works Fleet Budget, the replaced half
tons were to be disposed of at the Durham Equipment Auction scheduled for
September, 1985. Resolution GPA 543 -85 authorized the extended use of Units
502 & 532 until September 1986. These trucks are still in service and are
being used for the transportation of men and equipment on various low
mileage activities which include sidewalk maintenance, sign maintenance,
roadside hand mowing, brushing, and other minor maintenance activities
requiring small vehicles. As well, the former Animal Control van replaced
in the 1986 budget and scheduled for the 1986 sale, is presently being
utilized by the Public Works Engineering Technicians as an engineering and
survey vehicle. The Public Works Department would like to continue to use
this vehicle for engineering and survey work and to properly assess the
"van" as to its desirability for this function. If use of the van is
approved, all costs to operate and maintain the vehicle would be included in
the general Public Works Fleet operation with a recovery of $3.45/hr.,
similar to 1/2 ton trucks.

At present, engineering staff must rely on the use of personal vehicles or
requisition and schedule a maintenance vehicle from the works yard. The
three vehicles have received mechanical fitness checks and are considered
road worthy for the specified limited usage until September, 1987.
It is, therefore, recommended that the two one -half ton pickup trucks and
one one -half ton van remain in limited service until September, 1987.
Respectfully submitted,
G rdon J. Ough, P. Eng.,
Director of Public Works.
