That this report be received; and, 2. That the Director of Public Works be authorized to extend forthwith, the Gravel Crushing Contract T86 -6 with Robert E. That all costs be charged to the .'Gravel Inventory Account No. 13004- 00013. ec Page 2 Report No. WD -96 -86 Early this spring, Tender T86 -6, a tender for gravel crushing and hauling was advertised and the contract awarded to Robert E. Young Ltd. in accordance with Town Policy. Since the contract was awarded, Public Works have stockpiled approximately 20,000 tonnes of pit run gravel excavated from below the water table at the Town's pit in preparation for future gravel crushing needs. The contractor is now available and willing to crush and stockpile the material as an extension to the contract.; Considerable savings can be realized by utilizing the contractor when he is available and 1986 prices are established in accordance with the present contract. It is recommended that the crushing costs be charged to the Gravel Inventory . Account to be replenished when the gravel is used on specific projects. Staff would approximate these costs at from $25,000 to $30,000. Gravel from the Town's pit is an excellent resource when it is used in the south part of the municipality reducing haulage costs from the traditional commercial pits in the north. Probable projects requiring gravel use in 1987 are gravel resurfacing, surface treatment and reconstruction projects such as Golf Course Road, Mill Street, Riley Road and Concession Street. Material provided for these projects are eligible for subsidy by the Ministry of Transportation and Communications. It is, therefore, recommended that Tender T86 -6 be extended to crush and stockpile the additional gravel. Respect ,Ally submitted, Recommended for presentation to t Committee, Gordon J.
