1. Land Acknowledgement
Pranay shared Clarington’s Land Acknowledgement Statement.
2. Welcome and Introductions
Pranay welcomed everyone to the meeting. Members took turns introducing
themselves. Jeannette Whynot, Accessibility Coordinator, introduced herself as the
point of contact for this task force until the new IDEA Officer is hired.
3. Review of Agenda - Declarations of Interest
Members were asked if they would like to declare any items of interest. No concerns
were shared.

That the agenda of the September 13 meeting be approved.

4. Review of Previous Meeting Minutes
Members reviewed the minutes of the July 5 meeting

That the minutes of the July 5 meeting be approved.

5. Election of Co-Chair
Members engaged in a discussion about roles and term lengths of Task Force
Members, and it was shared how there is the need for a Co-Chair. Members
deferred the election of the Co-Chair to the next meeting.
Moved by Carlene Honigan Seconded by Joe Adesanya,
That the terms of reference for Clarington’s Anti-Black Racism Task Force be
updated to include a 2-year term for the Co-Chair position and that the Co-Chair
represent Clarington’s Black community.
Carried.
6. Update on Anti-Racism and Discrimination Strategy
Erica shared some background and an update on the current status of the
development of the Anti-Racism and Discrimination Strategy. The working group is
reviewing the survey data and examples of municipal action plans to bring back
suggested recommendations to a future meeting, once the IDEA Officer role is filled.
7. Goal Setting
Deferred to future meeting. Committee members requested that survey information
be shared with them so they can see what current issues/trends are. This information
will help the Task Force determine goals.
8. Other Business
Meeting schedule – next meeting is the first Wednesday of October at 6:00 p.m.
AppleFest booth – members were asked to hold October 14 from 9:00-5:00pm for a
booth at AppleFest. Jeannette will confirm if a booth is available for the Committees
and Task Force.
Next meeting: Wednesday November 1, 2023, at 6:00 p.m.
