When and where: • Saturday, September 9 from 8 a.m. to noon (rain or shine), Chestnut Hill Developments Recreation Complex (parking lot), 1867 Valley Farm Road, Pickering • Saturday, September 16 from 8 a.m. to noon (rain or shine), Uxbridge Seniors Centre (parking lot), 75 Marietta Street, Uxbridge • Saturday, September 23 from 8 a.m. to noon (rain or shine), Clarington Operations Depot 42, 178 Darlington -Clarke Townline Road, Bowmanville (south of Highway 2) Why: Durham Region's Environment Days support a circular economy, a model which retains and recovers as much value as possible from resources by reusing, repairing, refurbishing, remanufacturing, or repurposing products and materials before they are recycled or thrown out. Donate items in good condition for reuse Residents can donate items in good condition for reuse, including clothing and textiles, shoes, bedding, small household items and sporting goods. Only items deemed to be suitable for reuse by local charities will be accepted. For a complete list visit durham.ca/WasteEvents en living -here special - events -in -waste -management. aspx>.. Materials refused by charities must be removed by residents and may be disposed of at one of the Region's waste management facilities. Standard fees may apply. Recycle your electronic waste Residents can also safely recycle their end -of -life electronic waste at Environment Days, which helps to recover and recycle valuable resources while keeping toxic materials out of the waste stream. Examples of electronic waste include cell phones, audio and video players, VCRs, DVD and Blu-Ray players, stereos, computers, televisions, cameras, radios and more. Residents should erase personal information from hard drives and SIM cards before bringing their obsolete, broken and end -of -life electronics for safe and secure recycling. Examples of HHW include antifreeze, batteries, brake fluid, motor oil and filters, fluorescent light bulbs and tubes, cooking oil, medication, mercury thermostats and more. Commercial, institutional, agricultural, or industrial waste is not permitted. Note: Residents are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item, to be donated to a local food bank (please check that boxes and cans are not damaged, opened or expired). The limits of the work include Bowmanville Avenue (Regional Road 57) from 300 metres north to 270 metres south of Regional Road 3/Concession Road 8 and on Regional Road 3/Concession Road 8 from 300 metres west to 200 metres east of Bowmanville Avenue (Regional Road 57) Construction Schedule The Region's contractor, Hard -Co Construction Ltd., anticipates completing the work by November 2023. Intersection Control The existing traffic signals were decommissioned at the beginning of construction and the intersection will operate as an all -way stop control for the duration of construction. Road Closure and Detours Bowmanville Avenue (Regional Road 57) will be closed at Regional Road 3 to 270 metres south beginning September 11 for approximately four weeks until early October 2023. Unfavorable weather conditions and work progress may influence the work schedule. Traffic will be detoured on Regional Road 3, Enfield Road (Regional Road 34), and Taunton Road (Regional Road 4). Access for local traffic and emergency vehicles will be maintained through the detour routes. Immediately following the road closure of Bowmanville Avenue (Regional Road 57) south of Regional Road 3, the project will transition into a full closure of the intersection of Bowmanville Avenue and Regional Road 3/Concession Road 8 for approximately two weeks to complete the final staging works and base asphalt paving of the roundabout. Traffic will be advised to use alternative routes. Further advance public notice will be provided to detail dates and intersection closure. Municipal construction projects include the use of equipment that may cause noticeable noise and vibration for nearby residents and businesses. The Region realizes that the construction work will be disruptive and will make every effort to complete the work as quickly and efficiently as possible. The MEA values the contribution of all municipal employees, is committed to the continued technical excellence of our future municipal engineers, is sensitive to serving the community and the need for effective communication skills. Earlier this year, the MEA advised your municipality about its 2023 Bursary Program to assist students enrolling in an engineering program at the university level for the upcoming 2023/2024 academic year. This is the 16t" consecutive year the MEA has awarded bursaries to children/dependents of municipal employees and elected councillors; over $176,000 in bursaries has been awarded since the inception of this program The MEA received numerous applications for bursaries and concluded its review process over the summer period We are pleased to advise that Peyton Davey, whose father, Andrew Davey, is employed as a Facilities Operator by the Municipality of Clarington, was amongst the highest scoring applications and was awarded the John Hammer Memorial Bursary in the amount of $2,000.
