THAT Report PD- 15,7 -97 be received for information. 1. BACKGROUND 1.1 On September 29, 1997, Council passed the following resolution: "THAT the correspondence dated September 10, 1997, from Jae Eadie, President, Federation of Canadian Municipalities regarding the Affordability and Choice Today (A.C.T) Program, be received; THAT the correspondence be forwarded to the Director of Planning and Development, in conjunction with the Treasurer, for review and report to be submitted to the General Purpose and Administration Committee ". 1.2 The letter from the Federation of Canadian Municipalities advised that a total grant of $20,000 is available to Municipalities, builders, housing agencies and developers to demonstrate innovations in planning, design and construction technology requiring changes in by -laws. 1.3 If approved, any case study grant will be limited to $5,000 and all Municipalities are invited to examine projects that may qualify for such a grant. 990- REPORT NO.: PD- 157 -97 PAGE 2 2. STAFF COMMENT 2.1 The Affordability and Choice Today (A.C.T.) Program has been in place for several years. Although the Program has been in place for several years, staff have not made any application in the past primarily due to the very limited funds available for all Canada municipalities. In addition, we feel that the scope of the eligibility is also rather limited. 2.2 We have review the Department Work Program and cannot identify any project or case study that would qualify for the grant. Nevertheless, staff will monitor the program annually and will report to Council should a "fit" arises in the future. Respectfully submitted, Franklin Wu, M.C.I.P., R.P.P.
