E-Waste E-waste is the name for electronic products nearing the end of their "useful life." Computers, televisions, VCRs, stereos, copiers, and fax machines are common electronic products. Many of these products can be reused, refurbished, or recycled All electronics collected will be sent to an Ontario Electronic Stewardship (OES) approved processor who dismantles the items and separates them into individual components. Electronic devices contain a variety of materials that can be repurposed for future use. Recycled plastics are used to manufacture water pipes, recycled glass is new monitors or TVs, and metals can be recycled. Recycling materials from end-of-life electronics is the most effective solution to the growing a-waste problem. Some examples of "E-waste": • Cellular phones • Cameras & radios • PDAs & pagers • VCRs/DVD players • Audio & video players • Telephones REPORT NO.: OPD-009-12 PAGE 3 • Cellular phones • PDAs & pagers • Audio & video players 0 Computer peripherals • Cameras & radios 0 Monitors • VCRs/DVD players 0 Printing devices • Telephones 0 Camcorders • Stereos & receivers 0 Televisions • Desktop computers • Portable computers By dismantling and reusing components/materials pollution caused by hazardous disposal is avoided. It simply makes good sense to recycle and to do our part to keep the environment green. Please ensure that all personal information is removed from your a-waste before recycling to protect your privacy and security. 3. Hazardous Household Waste Household Hazardous waste includes products with any the following warnings on the label: DANGER, FLAMMABLE, POISON, TOXIC, CORROSIVE or 446P& These types of materials can cause serious environmental damage if not disposed of properly. By disposing of these materials properly and not putting them in the regular garbage or pouring them down drains and sewers, we are helping to protect our environment. All these items will be accepted and disposed of free of charge at the HH Waste Event. REPORT NO.: OPD-009-12 PAGE 4 • Aerosol Containers .
