Subject: REQUEST FOR STREET NAME CHANGE - DYKE PLACE TO BLUEHAVEN

Recommendations:
It is respectfully recommended that the General Purpose and Administration
Committee recommend to Council the following:
1. THAT Report PD- 114 -97 be received;
2. THAT By -law 86 -112, being a by -law to establish a Street Name Map and Street
Name Inventory in the Municipality of Clarington, be amended to change the
street name "Dyke Place" to "Bluehaven Court" within the former Town of
Bowmanville;
3. THAT Council authorize the Mayor and Clerk to execute a by -law to amend By -law
86 -112 being a by -law to establish the Street Name Map and Street Name
Inventory in the Municipality of Clarington.

1.1 On May 16, 1997, the Planning Department received correspondence from Mario
Veltri of Veltri and Son Limited, requesting that the street name Dyke Place be
changed. This street name was originally accepted by Mr. Veltri when 18T -89086
was registered on November 12, 1991 on Plan 40M -1691.
1.2 In Mr. Veltri's submission, he had suggested 3 different street names to potentially
replace the street name "Dyke" Place. They were Bowmanville Court, Veltri Court
and Bluehaven Court.

1.3 Dyke Place is situated east of Mearns Road and runs south from McFeeters
Crescent. There are currently no residents living on this street.
2. PUBLIC MEETING AND SUBMISSIONS
2.1 Pursuant to the provisions of the Municipal Act, the proposed name change was
advertised for four (4) consecutive weeks in a local paper from August 11, 1997
to September 1, 1997. In that no residents are living on this street at this time,
notice was mailed to the land developer and to the only resident which has a lot
abutting the subject street.
At the time of writing this report, there have been no submissions received.
3. STAFF REPORT
3.1 Staff have prepared a list of names which are considered to be historically
significant. These names are to be used for street naming purposes. "Dyke"
appears on the Municipality's street name list as does "Bluehaven ". However,
"Veltri" does not appear on the street name list. The street name "Bowmanville"
is on this list, however, it has been set aside to use in the Bowmanville West Main
Central Area.
3.2 In that no residents live on the street and the impact of changing the street name
will be minimal, Staff have no objection to this request for a street name change.
4. RECOMMENDATION
4.1 In consideration of the fact that no residents will be directly impacted, and that the
recommended name is also included on the Municipality's reserved street name
list, it is respectfully recommended that the attached By -law be adopted to amend
street name "Dyke" Place to "Bluehaven" Court.

BY -LAW NUMBER 97-
being a by -law to amend By -law 86 -112, a by -law to establish a Street Name Map and
Street Name Inventory in the Municipality of Clarington
WHEREAS the Council of the Corporation of the Municipality of Clarington deems it
expedient to amend the Street Map and Street Name Inventory for roads in the
Municipality of Clarington;
AND WHEREAS such Street Name Map and Street Name Inventory establishes an official
name for all improved roads and those unimproved roads with summer maintenance
only for the Municipality of Clarington;
NOW THEREFORE BE IT enacted as by -law for the Municipality of Clarington as follows:
1. Schedule "A" the Street Name Map, and Schedule "B" the Street Name Inventory,
be amended to:
a) change the name "Dyke" Place to "Bluehaven" Court.
