BOWMANVILLE, ONTARIO

REPORT TO GENERAL PURPOSE AND
ADMINISTRATION COMMITTEE MEETING OF MARCH 22, 19f2
CS -06 -82
SUBJECT: BOWMANVILLE BASEBALL ASSOCIATION
RECOMMENDATIONS:
1. That the Bowmanville Baseball Associations' application to
amalgamate be granted.
2. That the three (3) stipulations as per the attachment also
be granted.
BACKGROUND AND COMMENT:
The Department of Community Services and the Bowmanville Baseball Assoc.
!lave held a number of meetings during the year 1981 regarding transferring
the Recreation Minor Baseball League (this includes the Village of
Newcastle and Brownsdale) over to the Bowmanville Baseball Association.
During the year 1981, the Bowmanville Baseball League worked in conjunction
with the Department of Community Services to get aquainted with our
baseball operation.
The Bowmanville Baseball Association is changing their name and this is
tentatively "Town of Newcastle Baseball Association ". Mr. David Gilchrist,
President, assures me that the "Town of Newcastle Baseball Association" will
be adopted at their next meeting.
Before this organization takes over the Recreation Minor Baseball League,
an inventory of all equipment and the value of it will be submitted to
Council and the Bowmanville Baseball Association (Newcastle).
Respectfully submitted,
Thomas A. Fanning f

TOWN OF NEWCASTLE BASEBALL ASSOCIATION
February 26, 1982.
Bud Fanning,
Community Services Department,
Town of Newcastle.
Dear Sir:
PQ
The Bowmanville Baseball Assocation (B.A.A.) wishes to make
application to amalgamate the Community Services Baseball '
Program in with its own. This is to commence with the 1982
Ball season.
Last year (1981) the B.B.A. worked with the Community Services
Department (mainly Joe Kennett) in operating the Baseball
Program. The Assocation has decided it can handle all
Baseball, and feels it would be advantageous to have all
Baseball in the Town under one roof.
In order for this transfer to be carried out, three
stipulations must be agreed upon:
1. All Baseball equipment from the Community Services
Department be transferred to the B.B.A. at no
charge.
2. Thre.e ball diamonds(Soper Creek, Vincent Massey
and Memorial Park North) be allotted to the B.B.A.
3. A grant be given to the B.B.A. to assist in the
financing of the Baseball Program. (The application
for a grant was submitted in November).
Since the B.B.A. has always enjoyed a close relationship with
the Community Services Department, we feel this transfer could
be accomplished without any major difficulties. This would
include Baseball in Newcastle Village.
Please contact me to arrange a meeting to go over this
application.
i
Sincerely,
D. Gilchrist,
President, B.B.A.
