ADMINISTRATION COMMITTEE MEETING OF APRIL 5, 1982

SUBJECT: MINISTRY OF CULTURE AND RECREATION WORKSHOP
RECOMMENDATIONS:
1. Recommend this report be received for information.
2. That the Director of Community Services be authorized
to attend a Workshop conducted by Ministry of Culture
and Recreation on May 11th to 13th, 1982 in Keene,
Ontario at no cost to the municipality.
BACKGROUND & COMMENT:
This Workshop has been used very successfully in business and industry
and this is the first time it has been introduced to the Culture and
Recreation field.
I feel by attending this Workshop, I will be able to improve and update
job performance.
Please find attached a letter from Mr. Bjorn Nielsen, Community Programs
Consultant, Ministry of Culture and Recreation, Peterborough.

This letter offers you an opportunity to. experience a resource

and industry and until now has not been tested in the cultural
or recreational field. It is an introduction to the essentials
of situational leadership as applied to management and supervision.
As a participant in this workshop you will be kept interested
and actively learning from start to finish as well as
effectively achieving two major objectivess
1. To increase understanding of.how people are managed
affectively, and of the leadership strategies which
can increase the productivity of subordinates.
2. To develop specific skills in matching leadership,
styles to the needs of.subordinates.'

As this is the first time this package has.been used
in the cultural and recreation field, we would value your

We will begin the workshop at 1 :00 p.m. on May 11, 1982 and
conclude the workshop at 12a00 p.m. on May 13, 1982. Please
refer to the enclosures for directions to Elmhirst Resort.
If you are able to take advantage of this unique experience

to our office in Peterborough by April 14, 1982, so we may
make arrangements to pay for your accommodations. Meals and
refreshments will be your responsibility (please refer to the
