1. Land Acknowledgement
Pranay shared Clarington's Land Acknowledgement Statement.
2. Welcome and Introductions
Pranay welcomed everyone to the meeting and invited all to share a brief
introduction.
3. Review of Agenda - Declarations of Interest
Members were asked if they would like to declare any items of interest. No concerns
were shared.
4. Review of Previous Meeting Minutes
Deferred to next meeting as quorum was not met.
5. Updates on Anti -Racism and Discrimination Strategy Development
• Survey was open May 23 to June 30, 2023
• Approximately 350 responses recorded
• 3 focus groups held with representatives from Clarington / Durham community
organizations — 12 organizations represented by 24 individuals
• Next steps — review data, begin building out framework for action plan in late
July
• Come back to Anti -Black Racism Task Force and Diversity Advisory Committee
for input at September meetings
• Draft plan back to community for input in October / November prior to going to
Council for endorsement
• Members who are interested in participating on the Working Group are asked to
let Erica know and an invite will be sent to the data review meeting being held
Thursday, July 27, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. (virtual)
• Tenzin suggested members of the Diversity Advisory Committee also be invited
and include for the July 13 meeting agenda
6. Anti -Racism Webpage Review
The development of an anti -racism page on www.clarington.net was recommended by
the Anti -Black Racism Task Force. The page is to include information and resources to
educate and provide support to those experiencing racism in our community.
Erica provided an update that a Region -wide approach to a reporting feature (similar to
the City of Thunder Bay) is being discussed in collaboration with local 211. More to
come.
Yasmin Shafi, Community Events Specialist with the Municipality, provided an overview
of the webpage and walked Members through a tour of the main landing page, as well
as the anti -racism page that was developed.
Feedback from the members included:
• Could statistics be provided as Durham specific?
• Include under resources the Anti -Black Racism Task Force, Crisis Lines and
Support, DRPS reporting portal
• Provide clarification to indicate when it's necessary to report to police, or what to
do if not at police -level
• Include option for new businesses to submit request to be added as a vendor
7. Goal Setting
Since there was no quorum during the meeting, goal setting was deferred to a future
meeting.
8. Other Business
The members set the next meeting date as Wednesday, September 13, 2023, at 6:00
p.m. (hybrid).
The Municipality of Clarington has partnered with the Region of Durham who is leading
the planning of an Emancipation Day event. It will be held Tuesday, August 1, 2023,
from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Audley Recreation Centre in Ajax.
Meeting was adjourned at 6:46 p.m.
