Re: Structural Inspection -- Bowmanville Arena,
Town of Newcastle
Dear Sir:
Reference is made to our inspection of the Bowmanville Arena on 1983 08 04. A
schematic layout of the arena's structural components is illustrated on the
attached Sketch No. 1, dated August, 1983. A summary of our observations and
J. T. Donald Consultants Limited's Report are also attached.
The arena's structural components are basically in good condition and are
generally adequate in relation to the Ontario Building Code's loading
requirements with the following exceptions:
I. Member N'R' of Truss No. 2 is split and should be reinforced.
2. Members JM' of Truss No. 2, F'M' and JM' of Truss No. 3 and F W of Truss
No. 6 are excessive Iv checked and shocild be banded.
3. Various bands are loose and should be replaced.
It is also recommended that leaks in the main arena and front bui.l.ding section
roofs be repaired to extend the life expectancy of the building.
Please contact the undersigned it additional information is required, or if we
could be of further assistance in the above regards.
Yours very truly,
G. L. Aleong, P. Eng.

New banding should be installed. It may be possible at some
locations to tighten the loose bands by wedging, etc.; however
we feel that it would be more efficient and economical to in-
stall new bands.
Generally, the trusses were found to be in a satisfactory
condition at this time. Decking was found to be in satisfactory
condition.
We would point out that no reinforcing of members should be carried out
unless first approved by Totten, Sims, Iiubicki Associates.
