RECODV ENDATIONS:1.It is respectfully recommended that the General Purpose and
Administration Committee receive this report for information.
BACKGROUND & COIMMENT:
The attached agreement between the "Northumberland and Newcastle Board of
Education" and the "Corporation of the Town of Newcastle" does not specify
when they cut the grass and how they cut it is their responsibility.
The Department of Community Services cuts the grass at t1averley Park and Lord
Elgin School grounds in Bowmanville and both facilities are of a joint owner-
ship with the Board of Education, however, the School Board cuts the grass at
the Zion Park Soccer Pitch (Mitchell's Corners) in lieu of our grass cutting
at 'Haverley and Lord Elgin School grounds. This is a verbal agreement between
the School Board and this Department.
This issue has previously been discussed with the School Board. Representatives
of the Board are of the opinion that the School grounds in question are maintained
adequately for School Board use. Funds, machinery and man -power are minimal
and cannot accommodate the additional use by local teams.
