(416) 263.2231 987 -5039 REPORT TO THE GENERAL PURPOSE AND ADMINISTRATION COMMITTEE MEETING OF NOVEMBER 7, 1983. REPORT NO: WD- 87 -83. SUBJECT: BOWMANVILLE SANTA CLAUS PARADE. SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 19, 1983. RECOMMENDATION: It is respectfully recommended: 1. That Report WD -87 -83 be received; and, 2. That, conditional upon the Community of Bowmanville Santa Claus Parade Committee acquiring the necessary Road Occupancy Permits, in compliance with By -Law 83 -32, and submitting details of the route to be followed, approval be given to the holding of the annual Santa Claus Parade on Saturday, November 19, 1983; and, 3. That the applicant be advised to contact the Director of Public Works to obtain the abovementioned Permit, and to specify their requirements insofar as Departmental assistance is concerned. BACKGROUND AND REPORT: Each year Council is requested to grant approval to the holding of the Santa Claus Parade, by the Bowmanville Committee, and there is some necessary involvement of the Public Works and other Departments in providing assistance in the preparation and staging of the event. { J WD -87 -83 By -Law 83 -32 requires that all organizations wishing to hold any event which will disrupt or in any way affect the normal use of Municipal roads must file an application for Road Occupancy, and give appropriate notice to Police and Fire Departments of their intentions, the route to be followed, the duration of the event and whether any special facilities or manpower will be necessary. Insofar as the Public Works Department is concerned, any costs to the Town in the provision of assistance will be applied against Account Number 7212 - 169- 900 -2, in which an amount of $3,000. 00 was included in the Budget for miscellaneous items and events. The foregoing has been discussed with the Director of Community Services and it is suggested that, upon the Bowmanville Santa Claus Parade Committee complying with the Town's requirements, as detailed, the appropriate assistance be offered on Saturday, November 19, 1983.
