REPORT TO THE GENERAL PURPOSE AND ADMINISTRATION COMMITTEE
MEETING OF NOVEMBER 7, 1983.
'1 1 1 :'
SUBJECT: SALT STORAGE STRUCTURE AT
THE HAMPTON WORKS YARD.
RECOMMENDATION:
It is respectfully recommended:
1. That this report be received; and,
2. That funds in the amount of $75,000 allocated in the
1983 Budget for a salt storage structure not be spent
in 1983 and that such funds be carried forward to
1984.
3. That the full cost of about $125,000 for a salt
storage structure at the Hampton Works Yard be
considered for inclusion in the 1984 Budget.
Report
In the 1983 Public Works Budget, funds in t he amount of
$75,000 were provided for commencement of construction of a
salt storage structure at the Hampton Works Yard. It was
felt that this amount of money would permit construction of
an asphalt pad for the salt dome, construction of the
concrete base and possibly commencement of construction of k.
the structure itself. j

REPORT: WD -89 -83
A suitable location for the salt dome was selected, however,
it coincided with an existing pile of about 5000 tonnes of
winter sand. Thus, to construct the dome would require
relocation of the winter sand which had not been used due to
the light 1982/83 winter. At the Hampton Yard there is not
really a good alternate location for such a quantity of
winter sand, therefore, the considerable expenditure to
relocate the sand was not made. As a result, it has not
been possible to commence any work on the salt storage
structure.
It is still considered desirable to construct the salt dome;
therefore, it is recommended that the necessary works
proceed in 1984.
Respectfully submitted,
R.G. Dupuis, P. Eng.,
Director of Public Works.
