REPORT TO GENERAL PURPOSE &
ADMINISTRATION COMMITTEE MEETING OF JUNE 4, 1984
REPORT NO. CS -06 -84
SUBJECT: "BOWMANVILLE MEMORIAL ARENA IMPROVEMFNTS"
RECOMMENDATIONS: It is respectfully recommended that the General Purpose
and Administration Committee recommend to Council the
following:
1. That this report be received; and
2. That approval be given to the repairs shown on Priority
List Number One as they relate to the Bowmanville Memorial
Arena; and
3. That consideration be given to the repairs shown on
Priority List Number Two as they relate to the Bowmanville
Memorial Arena.
BACKGROUND AND COMMENTS:
According to the Town of Newcastle Five Year Forecast, the construction of a
new arena in Bowmanville is proposed for commencement in the year 1987. If
this is the case, then I would like to advise Council that the various
maintenance items shown on the attached Priority List Number One should be
carried out as soon as possible for the welfare and safety of the patrons using
the premises.
If we do not continue to perform preventive maintenance in the Bowmanville Arena
at the present time, we will face further deterioration in the arena, making it
unsafe for people to use.

Council should give some consideration to Priority List Number Two in Budget
Discussions in 1985 or earlier if funds are available.
Each budget year, until such time as the Bowmanville Arena is replaced, Council
should set aside funds for such necessary maintenance items. Each amount is
likely to increase with each year of the buildings operation.
