HomeMy WebLinkAboutCS-22-85_0 CORPORATION OF THE TOWN OF NEWCASTLE 40 TEMPERANCE STREET BOWMANVILLE, ONTARIO L1C3A6 TELEPHONE 623 -3379 REPORT TO THE GENERAL PURPOSE AND ADMINISTRATION COMMITTEE MEETING HELD OCTOBER 7 1985 REPORT CS- 22--85 SUBJECT: BOWMANVILLE ARENA FEASIBILITY STUDY PROGRESS REPORT RECOMMENDATIONS: It is respectfully recommended that the General Purpose and Administration Committee recommend to Council the following: 1. That report CS -22 -85 be received for information. BACKGROUND AND COMMENT: Attached please find a progress report on the Bowmanville Arena Feasibility Study as submitted by ReThink at a study team meeting on September 19 1985. The next phase of the project is a Community Forum scheduled for Thursday, October 17 1985 at the Lion's Centre. This is the final formal opportunity for the public to have input to the first draft of the Feasibility Study. A formal invitation to the Mayor and members of Council to attend this forum is forthcoming. It is anticipated that a final report on the Arena Feasibility Study will be available in mid - November. The exact timing will be dependent on the nature and extent of input received through the public forum. Completed the workshops with: - seniors (May 22, 1985) - arena users (May 23, 1985) - general interest group (May 22, 1985) 2. Discussed future residential growth for Newcastle with Planning Department staff. 3. Discussed present and future impact on population from the Darlington Generating Station.. 4. Completed'most of the research and analysis on: - seniors • a few figures to - ice facilities run down - fitness facilities - racquet sport facilities o a few more calls - banquet /multi - purpose hall to make - ball diamonds 5. Completed tour of all potential sites: - analyzed all available data on these sites including approximate market values - have analyzed all sites for suitability 6. Analyzed all returned Questionnaires. VSsi.tE:d mv�,t major facilities. 8. Have begun to organize for upcoming Community Forum. 9. Have analyzed all data and developed a number of alternative facility concepts and site options (for consideration at this meeting). 10.
