REPORT NO. WD -8 -84
BACKGROUND AND REPORT:
The attached correspondence from Charterways and the
Northumberland Newcastle Board of Education is requesting a
School Bus Loading Zone for the Bowmanville Senior Public
School. At present, the receiving and discharging of
students is causing considerable confusion for the motorists
travelling along Queen Street and Division Street. This
situation may be improved by the designation of a sixty -one
metre (two- hundred feet) School Bus Loading Zone and the
appropriate delineation, to more clearly define the traffic
movements. The implemention of the above recommendation
maintains a level of uniformity with the other schools
within the Town.
Respectfully submitted,
R.G. Dupuis, P. Eng.,
Director of Public Works.

I have received a letter from Mr. A. Groth, manager of Charterways branch in
Bowmanville, requesting that an area on the south side of Queen Street in
front of Bowmanville Senior Public School be designated as a school bus
loading zone. This request is supported by Constable Don Anderson of the
Durham Regional Police.
It is requested that the current by -law pertaining to `[School Bus Loading
Zones" be amended to include the establishment of a loading zone in front of
Bowmanville Senior Public School.
A copy of Mr. Groth's letter with a diagram is attached. Should you require
further information regarding this matter, please contact Mr. Groth or my
office in Cobourg.
Yours truly
R.E. Clitheroe

Attention: Mr. Bob Clitheroe, Transportation Department
Dear Mr. Clitheroe:
It has been brought to my attention by the Durham Regional
Police that when school buses are loading and unloading at the
Bowmanville Senior Public School there is a lot of confusion
for the motoring public.
In discussing this problem with Constable Don Anderson of
Durham Regional Police we feel that a school bus loading zone
is required. Please find attached a schematic plan of the
school area, and approximately were signs are needed.
We are looking forward for your approval, and if any fur-
ther information is required please do not hesitate to call.
