BACKGROUND & COMMENT As a result of the retirement of Mr. A. Hoar in March, 1983, a mechanics vacancy was created in the Works Department Fleet Section. At present, Mr. Noakes is recovering favourably, but it is undetermined when he will be able to return to work. Mr. Noakes would normally retire in May, 1985, creating an additional vacancy. At the present time the Fleet Section of the Works Department is operating with one full time mechanic. Major repairs such as engine rebuilds or warranty work are let to outside firms when prices quoted are considered more economical to in -house repairs. The Public Works are also responsible for maintaining the Animal Control vehicles as well as Parks and Recreation vehicles. The department has been fortunate in obtaining the services of a retired mechanic on a part -time basis during the illness of Mr. R. Noakes. To accommodate the daily operation of the Fleet, it is recommended that the vacancy created by the retirement of Mr. Hoar be filled. Respectfully submitted, r R.G. Dupuis, P.
