HomeMy WebLinkAboutCS-63-86TOWN OF NEWCASTLE REPORT File # Res. #C� - By -Law # (FETING: General Purpose and Administration Committee DATE: NOVEMBER 3, 1986 REPORT #: CS -63 -86 FILE #: SUBJECT: UIC SECTION 38 JOB CREATION PROGRAM RECOMMENDATIONS: It is respectfully recommended that the General Purpose and Administration Committee recommend to Council the following: - 1. That Report CS -63 -86 be received; and 2. That Council approve the UIC Section 38 job creation application submitted to Employment and Immigration Canada; and 3. That the Town contribution of $1,839. be included in the 1986 & 1987 Community Services operating budgets. BACKGROUND AND COMMENTS: The Community Services Department is currently sponsoring a UIC Section 38 job creation program jointly with Darlington Park. This program will be completed December 12, 1986 at which time a complete report will be forwarded to Council. Based on the success of the current project the project officer for the Section 38 job creation program in our region has encouraged us to apply for another Section 38 project. Due to the tight deadline for submissions an application was forwarded to the Employment and Development Branch on October 30, 1986 prior to this meeting. ../2 General Purpose and Administration Committee REPORT NO. CS -63 -86 Page 2. Again, this project is a joint proposal with Darlington park and the Community Services Department. The following is a brief description of the project submitted: Darlington Park 1) Painting and repairs to gate offices and comfort stations. 2) Repairs and painting of picnic tables. 3) Renovations at the Park main administration offices. 4) Update the park marketing program. Community Services Department 1) Painting of compressor room electrical Centre. room and ticket booth at Darlington Sports 2) Installation of a ceiling and insulation in the ticket booth and electrical room at Darlington Sports Centre. 3) Painting of stairway walls and court room #2 at the Fire Hall #1. 4) Complete painting of Animal Control Building interior. 5) Bushing and tree clearing at Soper Creek and Westview Heights Parks. 6) Renovations of parks depot. The project will employ seven (7) workers for approximately eighteen (18) weeks - starting November 17, 1986 and ending March 27, 1987. The total project cost is $58,093. The CEIC share of the project is $56,254. and the Town's share for this project is $1,839. Staff strongly recommends that council endorse this application and that the funds required as the Town's contribution be taken for the current operational budget.
