BACKGROUND AND COMMENTS: At the September 2nd, 1986 General Purpose and Administration meeting the following resolution was carried: "THAT a committee, to be comprised of the Director of Community Services, Chief Administrator, Treasurer and Deputy Mayor, bring forward a report to the General Purpose and Administration Committee, recommending a policy relating to outstanding achievements in the municipality." The writer prepared a draft civic recognition policy based on a number of policies from other municipalities. This draft was reviewed by the above committee last Monday, October 6. The revised draft is attached for council consideration and approval. WMA Council Meeting REPORT NO. CS -59 -86 Page 2. Some hi -lites of the policy are as follows: - There would be two categories of awards; and achievement award and service award. The service award would replace the citizen of the year award. - The award would be a wall mountable wooden plaque with a raised full colour metal Town Coat of Arms. - A reception would be held annually in December to honour the recipients earning the award in that given year. - No monetary awards would be given. - The funding of the annual event would be part of the Mayor's promotion account. - A sub - committee of Council would constitute the Committee. The Committee felt that an attempt should be made to have the first annual Civic Recognition Reception this December. This can be accomplished if Council authorize staff to proceed immediately and form the Committee tonight. Authorization is also requested to purchase fifty (50) awards at approximately $1,500. (includes pattern mold of crest walnut shields etc.). The reception and awards would be funded from the Mayor's promotion account. The above respectfully submitted on behalf of the Committee, €Jan Devantier, R.D.M.R., Director Department of Community Services JD:sa r
