SUBJECT:
CEMETERIES PROPOSED TARIFF OF RATES
RECOMMENDATIONS:
It is respectfully recommended that the General Purpose and Administration Committee
recommend to Council the following: -
1. That report CS -11 -86 be received; and
2. That the 1986 Cemeteries proposed Tariff of Rates outlined in Schedule 'B'
attached be approved; and
3. That the appropriate changes to By -Law 79 -104 be authorized and directed to
Council for approval; and
4. That the 1986 Cemeteries proposed Tariff of Rates be submitted to the
Ministry of Consumer and Commercial Relation for approval.
BACKGROUND AND COMMENTS:
Cemetery tariff of rates have not been increased since 1981 despite significant
increases in maintenance costs.
The Ministry of Consumer and Commercial Relations, the Ministry that must approve rate
changes, prefers municipalities to update their rates routinely so as not to incur
substantial rate hikes at any one time. It is our intention to update tariff rates
annually from now on.

The attached Schedule 'A' shows the current and Schedule 'B' the proposed 1986 rates.
The overall increase in proposed rates reflects a 4% increase per year over the past
five years and brings our rates in line with surrounding Municipal owned cemeteries.
Please note that the form of presentation has changed and a number of new categories
have been added which previously had been accounted for under the section Other
Services:(At cost for time and materials.).
It is recommended to committee that Schedule'B' be approved and that Schedule 'A' of
By -Law 79 -104 be revised accordingly; that the new By -Law be adopted by Council and that
said By -Law be submitted to the Ministry of Consumer and Commercial Relations for
approval.

the Maintenance, Management, Regulation
and Control of
Cemeteries in the Town of Newcastle
WHEREAS the Council of

the Corporation of the Town of Newcastle on
the 9th day of October,19+79
did pass By -Law 79 -104, and
WHEREAS the Council of
the Corporation of the Town of Newcastle deems
it' desirable to amend
the' Tariff of Rates for the Cemeteries owned by
the Town of Newcastle:
THEREFORE the Council
of the Corporation of the Town of Newcastle
herby enacts as follows:

1. That Schedule "A"
Tariff of Rates be deleted and substituted by
'the attached SChedule3
"A" Tariff of Rates.

2. This By -Law shall
come into force on the 1st day of July 1981,
subject, however,
to ;the approval of the Ministry of Consumer
and Commercial Relations.
