BACKGROUND AND COMMENTS: As requested by resolution of Council and subsequently by the Advisory Board, I offer the following information to serve as an update on the status of the new arena. Site: The site of the new arena has been selected and approved by council. The town has purchased a parcel of land (approx. 22 acres) on the North -West corner of H.wy. ##2 and Regional Road 57 to serve as the location-of the new arena. Council approved in principle a design which incorporated a 1400 seat arena, an outdoor skating rink (artificial ice), a Multi Purpose Facility which would have a capacity of 350 people (seated at tables), and four softball diamonds to be located on the westerly portion of the property. Preliminary Design: At this point, our consultants were directed to prepare the preliminary design of the facility. This design, was presented to council at the March 16th. meeting of the General Purpose and Administration Committee and approved in principle. The consultants were then requested to prepare a preliminary budget prior to council's authorization of the preparation of the detailed design drawings. Preliminary Budget: A cost estimate summary (attachment #1) was prepared and submitted to the General Purpose and Administration Committee for approval. The cost estimates were approved in principle and authorization was given for preparation of the Detailed Design Drawings. At present, the detailed design stage is in progress. I have also enclosed a schedule of target dates (attachment #2) which leads to the contractor award in early September of this year. I trust this brief recap of events will serve for purposes of information as requested. Respectfully Submitted: Joseph P.
