SUBJECT: GRANTS WORKSHOP

It is respectfully recommended that the General Purpose and Administration Committee
recommend to Council the following: -
1. That Report CS -15 -87 be received for information.
BACKGROUND AND COMMENTS:
A request was made of staff by the N.C.S.A.B. regarding the possibility of conducting
a Grants Workshop with the purpose of providing information to various volunteer
organizations, making them aware of the potential grants which are available from
Provincial, Federal and Municipal sources.
The Workshop will be held on Thursday, May 14, 7:00 p.m. at the Bowmanville Lions
Centre hosted by the Department of Community Services and sponsored by the N.C.S.A.B.
The target group for this Workshop will include all Town of Newcastle recreational and
cultural organizations, including Hall Boards, Service Clubs, Neighborhood
Associations, Sports, Arts and Cultural Groups, Libraries and Museum Boards.

Speakers will include representatives from the Ministry of Citizenship and Culture,
Health and Welfare Canada, and the Ministry of Tourism and Recreation. An information
and Registration form (Schedule #1) outlining the evenings itinerary will be sent to
each of the Volunteer Groups and Boards inviting them to attend. An open invitation
is also extended to the Mayor and Members of Council.

WORKSHOP OUTLINE
The purpose of this workshop will
be to make volunteers aware of the
various grants available to their
organization from municipal,
provincial and federal
governments.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND
If your organization is always
looking for money - this workshop
is for you. Any volunteer group
involved in providing recreational
and /or cultural opportunities to
the public through services or
facilities is welcome to attend.
Seniors will be specifically
interested in the New Horizons
program.
