METING: Newcastle Community Services Advisory Board
DATE: January 7, 1987
REPORT #: CS -04 -87 FILE #:
SUB,ECT: GRANT ASSESSMENT RE- DISTRIBUTION
RECOMMENDATIONS:
Res. #
By -Law #
It is respectfully recommended that the Newcastle Community Services Advisory Board
recommend to Council the following: -
1. That Report CS -04 -87 be received; and
2. That Cemetery Boards responsible for the maintenance of abandoned
cemeteries and /or Town owned cemeteries be directly addressed by Town
staff through the Community Services Cemetery budget; and
3. That Cultural Service Grant requests from the Museums, Visual Arts Centre
and Libraries also be presented directly to Council; and
4. That the Board continue to assess the Civic,Service and Recreational grant
requests.
BACKGROUND AND COMMENTS:
In reference to a concern by Board Members Councillors and Staff that some grant
applications are being considered by the Board which more appropriately should be
considered directly by Council, staff would propose the following:
1. That Cemetery Boards responsible for the maintenance of abandoned
cemeteries and /or Town owned cemeteries be directly addressed by Town
staff through the Community Services Cemetery budget; and
2. That Cultural Service Grant requests from the Museums, Visual Arts Centre
and Libraries also be presented directly to Council; and
3. That the Board continue to assess the Civic Service and Recreational grant
requests.

Staff would also suggest that it is inappropriate for the Board to consider grants to
private Cemetery Boards specifically in reference to the Bethesda Cemetery Board
request.
The L.A.C.A.C. Committees request should be addressed through the Town budget
process.
Respectfully submitted,
