BACKGROUND AND COMMENTS: At the February 4, 1987 N.C.S.A.B. meeting, Community Services Department Staff were asked to consider setting up an information session for Town volunteers in the Spring. Topics suggested included provincial and federal grants available for community groups and an update on the liability issue. Based on follow -up to these requests the attached Schedules recommend a proposed agenda, time frame and budget for such a workshop. The target group suggested for this workshop would include all Town of Newcastle recreational and volunteer Organizations including hall boards, service clubs, neighbourhood associations, sports, arts and cultural groups. A week night at the end of April or beginning of May would be the ideal time for this session since the provincial grant systems would definitely be set by then and most groups (summer & winter) are active at this time. ../2 Newcastle Community Services Advisory Board REPORT NO. CS -11 -87 Page 2. A location should be considered within the Town of Newcastle at a facility which will hold approximately 75 - 100 people and will be provided free of charge. Field Consultants from the Ministry explained that it is certainly possible to invite John Eakins or Otto Jelinek to speak. However, they require at least two months notice and their speeches would only be in general terms. They would not be available to answer questions from the audience. Respectfully submitted,. Jane M.
