It is respectfully recommended that the General purpose &
Administration Committee recommend to Council the following: -
1. That report no. CS -03 -88 be received; and
2. That Council donate a cordless telephone as a prize
to this years Salmon Derby Event on behalf of the Town
of Newcastle; and
3. That staff be authorized to purchase the cordless
telephone at an upset limit of $200.00; and
4. That the necessary funds be drawn from the
Tourism /Economic Development account; and
5. That Mr. Mike Hayakawa of Oshawa This Week be so
informed.
BACKGROUND & COMMENTS:
At the regular meeting of Council held February 8, 1988
communication was received from Mr. Mike Hayakawa, This Week
Salmon Derby Co- ordinator requesting Town Council donate a prize
to this year's Salmon Derby to be held from July 1 - August 1, 1988
inclusive. Subsequently the request was referred to Community
Services for report and recommendation.

This is an annual event and Town Council did participate in 1987,
donating a gift of $200.00 which was used to purchase a 35 mm
camera. If Council endorses the above recommendations, staff
will purchase a cordless telephone for donation as a prize on
•--behalf of the Town of Newcastle.
