By -Law # MEETING: GENERAL PURPOSE & ADMINISTRATION COMMITTEE DATE: March 7, 1988 REPORT #: Cs -05 -88 FILE #: TOWN -WIDE "FESTIVAL HARVEST" UPDATE RECOMMENDATIONS: It is respectfully recommended that the General Purpose & Administration Committee recommend to Council the following: - 1. That report no. CS -05 -88 be received for information. BACKGROUND & COMMENTS: The concept of a Town -wide special event was initiated by the Newcastle Community Services Advisory Board. The intent of this event is to provide an opportunity to promote our community and to create a sense of pride and unity among the diverse communities within the Town. Public meetings facilitated by Community Services Department and the NCSAB were held January 13th and February 10th to determine public interest and to establish a Committee to research and implement such an event. (Schedule I indicates those individuals and organizations represented at these meetings.) A great deal of interest and enthusiasm was apparent at these meetings as well as through local papers. At the second meeting a Committee of seven individuals was established to research and develop this "event" including a name, time frame, focus etc. (see Schedule II for Committee members). A representative from Community Services Department and the Newcastle Community Services Advisory Board will be attending the Committee's meetings to act in an advisory capacity only. Staff will also keep Council updated on their progress through attendance at these meetings. Respectfully submitted, Jose P.
