OSHAWA WHITBY THIS WEEK - SALMON DERBY
RESOLUTION #C-170-89
RECOMMENDATIONS:
It is respectfully recommended that the General Purpose &
Administration Committee recommend to Council the following:-
1. That Report No. CS-07-89 be received; and
2. That Council donate a gift certificate from Farrow's
Bait Tackle and Hunting Supplies in Bowmanville as a
prize to this years Salmon Derby Event on behalf of
the Town of Newcastle; and
3. That staff be authorized to purchase the gift
certificate in the amount of $200.00; and
4. That the necessary funds be drawn from the Tourism/
Economic Development account number
7710-00000-0299; and
5. That Mr. Mike Hayakawa of Oshawa Whitby This Week be
so informed.
BACKGROUND & COMMENTS:
At the regular meeting of Council held March 13, 1989
communication was received from Mr. Mike Hayakawa, This Week
Salmon Derby Co-ordinator requesting Town Council donate a prize
to this year's Salmon Derby to be held from July 1 - August 1,
1989 inclusive. Subsequently the request was referred to
Community Services for report and recommendation.

This is an annual event which Town Council participated in the
past two years by donating a gift of $200.00 which was used to
purchase a 35 mm camera in 1987 and a cordless telephone in 1988.
If Council endorses the above recommendations, staff will
purchase a gift certificate for donation as a prize on behalf
of the Town of Newcastle.

At a meeting held on March 13th, 1989, the Council of the Town of Newcastle
passed the following resolution:
"THAT the correspondence dated February 17, 1989, from Mr. Mike Hayakawa, Oshawa
Whitby This Week, requesting that the Town of Newcastle donate a prize to the
presentation of the Oshawa Whitby This Week Salmon derby, be received;
THAT the correspondence be referred to the Community Services Department for
a subsequent report to be forwarded to the General Purpose and Administration
Committee; and
THAT Mr. Mike Hayakawa, be so advised."
