NORTHERN FIRE STATION - PROGRESS REPORT
RECOMMENDATIONS:
It is respectfully recommended that the General Purpose &
Administration Committee recommend to Council the following:-
1. That Report No. CS -13 -90 be received for information.
1.0 BACKGROUND:
1.1 An agreement was signed between the Corporation of the Town
of Newcastle and Gerr Construction Limited to perform the work
required by the contract documents for the Northern Fire
Station (Contract T89 -39) which were prepared by Phillips
Barratt Kaiser Engineering Limited on January 22, 1990.
1.2 The Community Services Department undertook project management
of this project on January 31, 1990 and subsequently held
meetings with all parties involved to determine construction
schedule, project revisions, changes, and establish site
meetings.
2.0 STATUS REPORT:
2.1 As of April 6, 1990 the project is on schedule and within
budget. The majority of the block and brickwork has now been
completed and a portion of the structural steel is in place.

2.2 The roof trusses are scheduled for installation during the
week of April 9 - 12. Once complete, mechanical and
electrical contractors will be moving on to the site. At this
point (approximately April 16, 1990) the block and brickwork
should be complete.
3.0 CONSTRUCTION SCHEDULE:
3.1 Attachment 1 prepared on March 7, 1990 details the
'construction schedule, as submitted by Gerr Construction
Limited. The project did commence on February 5, 1990 and
completion is scheduled July 9, 1990. As stated earlier, the
project is on schedule considering the loss of four work days
to inclement weather.
3.2 If Members of Council wish to inspect the project during
construction please feel free to contact Mr. Horvath ext. 246
to make necessary arrangements.
3.3 Staff will continue to advise Members of Council on the status
of construction at pertinent phases of the schedule.
