GENERAL PURPOSE AND ADMINISTRATION
JULY 23, 1990
FILE #:
SUB.ECT:
BOND HEAD WATERFRONT PARK
RECOMMENDATIONS:
It is respectfully recommended that the General Purpose &
Administration Committee recommend to Council the following:-
1. That Report No. CS -31 -90 be received for information.
1.0 BACKGROUND:
1.1 During the 1990 Capital Budget deliberations, Council
approved the development of approximately one and a half
acres of waterfront south of Graham Creek in Bond Head.
2.0 REPORT:
2.1 The firm of Daniel J. O'Brien Associates Limited, Landscape
Architects was requested to develop detailed plans for the
site. In preparation for the design, soil tests and
topographical surveys were completed and engineering
consultants retained for the purpose of designing the boat
launching facility.
2.2 The site restrictions of the area have made an interesting
problem to fulfil the boat launching and parking requirements
while catering to pier fisherman, boaters and picnickers.

REPORT CS -31 -90 - 2 - JULY 23, 1990
3.0 COMPONENTS:
3.1 The facility will feature a double boat ramp, temporary
docking facilities, vehicle, trailer parking and picnic
facilities. Visitors will gain access to seasonal fishing
opportunities and the breakwater by means of a boardwalk which
parallels the Creek and allows for handicapped access. An
additional boardwalk provides a strong separation between the
beach and parking areas. Sunbathers , passive park visitors
and handicapped persons will find shelter in the proposed
beach pergola. The shoreline area will be enhanced by
eliminating the existing stone and gravel and replaced by
beach washed sand.
3.2 Deciduous trees will be introduced to provide a filtering of
the lake breezes and a visual screen for the residential
property to the east. The use of deciduous trees
appropriately placed creates an intimacy for park users,
however, high visibility and easy policing of the area is also
attained.
4.0 COMMENTS:
4.1 Staff is confident that this design provides for the most
efficient use of the site, providing public boat launching
facilities and recreational opportunities to residents and
visitors to our Municipality.
Respectfully submitted,
Recommended for presentation
