Subject: WALKWAY CONNECTION — COURTICE COMMUNITY COMPLEX
Recommendations:
It is respectfully recommended that Council approve the following:
1. THAT Report No. CS -13 -99 be received for information.
1.0 BACKGROUND
1.1 During the 1999 Budget deliberations Council requested staff to report back on the
walkway project at the Courtice Community Complex.
1.2 Since that time, Community Services in conjunction with Planning staff have agreed
to combine this project with the Valley 2000 project for Courtice and with the
subsequent funding approval awarded to Friends of the Section Marsh through the
Lotteries Advance Funding Program.
1.3 The intention of the walkway is to provide safe pedestrian access from Nash Road
through the woodlot to the Courtice Community Complex. In concert with Friends
of the Second Marsh and representatives from CLOCA, investigation is currently
underway as to the best location for the pathway.
1.4 Although the woodlot is identified as a tableland woodlot in the Clarington Official
Plan, it is apparent that it is a significant woodlot because of the hardwood species
and bird habitat that is found there. Working with staff from CLOCA and Friends of
the Second Marsh, will ensure that consideration is given to the sensitivity of the
area.
