HomeMy WebLinkAboutCS-12-99REPORT #5 THE CORPORATION OF THE MUNICIPALITY OF CLARINGTON REPORT Meeting: Council File # Date: July 19, 1999 ` Res. # Report #: CS -12 -99 By -law # Subject: -BEACH VOLLEYBALL- COURTICE COMMUNITY COMPLEX Recommendations: It is respectfully recommended that the General Purpose and Administration Committee recommend to Council the following: 1. THAT Report No. CS -12 -99 be received; and 2. THAT Ms. Anthea Rowe be thanked for her initiative in providing a beach volleyball facility at the Courtice Community Complex. 1.0 BACKGROUND 1.1 Staff was contacted as to the feasibility of providing the Courtice Community Complex as the location to house a Beach Volleyball Court for use by the youth of our municipality. 1.2 Ms. Anthea Rowe, a student from Courtice was interested in applying for a grant through the Molson Brewery Local Heroes program (Attachment #1) and if successful would provide a beach volleyball facility at the Courtice Complex. Staff reviewed the request and offered the complex site as a location for the court. 1.3 Through discussion with the Public Works Department, it was agreed that Community Services and Works would offer support and assistance in providing our resources to make this project a reality. 1.4 Subsequently, the application was approved, and funding has now been secured through Local Heroes. The project is now scheduled to commence this July for use by the area youth this summer. .../2 REPORT NO.: CS -12 -99 PAG E 2 1.5 Arrangements will be made to store equipment i.e. volleyball, netting in the complex and will be signed out at the front desk of the Courtice Complex by any youth wishing to utilize the facility. 1.6 The facility will be located in the grassed area immediately east of the Complex parking lot and will be a welcome addition to the various components that make the Complex a destination for our community. F►�� =K�]►�il►�IUN" 2.1 The Community Services Department is pleased to assist in this initiative and is an excellent example of youth providing for youth. 2.2 Ms. Anthea Rowe is to be commended for her efforts and staff is recommending that a letter from the Mayor's office be sent to Anthea, recognizing her efforts and initiative in making this project a reality.
