REPORT TO THE GENERAL PURPOSE AND ADMINISTRATION COMMITTEE
MEETING OF APRIL 16, 1984.
SUBJECT: PARKING AND STOPPING AT KING STREET
VANSTONE BRIDGE, BOWMANVILLE
PARTICULARLY DURING FISH MIGRATION.
I: Ki7`UuIiIl7VtMEi)A
It is respectfully recommended:
1. That this report be received, arid,
2. That the Town erect "No Parking or Stopping" signs on
King Street at the Vanstone Bridge, being an area
designated as such in By ®law 79 -1.
REPORT:
In the spring of each year, during fish migration in
Bowmanville Creek, members of the public come to the area in
large numbers to view the activity below the Vanstone
Bridge. Many individuals park or stop their vehicles on the
bridge which, because of the restricted width, i.e., no
shoulders, creates problems for normal traffic.

REPORT NO.: WD -41 -84
Accordingly, a complaint has been received about parking and
stopping on the bridge.
By -law 79 -1 prohibits parking on both sides of King Street
from Scugog Street to Durham Road 57, which includes the
Vanstone Bridge. P)lditionally, there is a general
prohibition of stopping on bridges in the by -law. Signs
indicating this fact have not, however, been posted. In
fact, there are many areas in the Town where parking
restrictions exist, (by By -law 79 -1), but where signs are
not placed due to economics and the fact that occasional
parking does not create problems. Generally, parking and
stopping on the Vanstone Bridge is not a concern, however,
since a problem of short duration has been identified, "No
Parking or Stopping" signs should be erected at the bridge,
and at either end where shoulder width is narrow.
In considering this matter, we are aware of the fact that
the fish migration does attract people to the area who
conceivably patronize local business while here.
Accordingly, rather than officially sign the whole area fr
Durham Road 57 to Scugog Street, it is being recommended
that only areas where problems exist be signed.
Respectfully submitted,
