HomeMy WebLinkAboutCS-10-96THE CORPORATION OF THE MUNICIPALITY OF CLARINGTON Recommendations: It is respectfully recommended that the General Purpose and Administration Committee recommend to Council the following: 1. THAT Report No. CS -10 -96 be received; and 2. THAT the Orono Athletic Association be encouraged to apply for parking passes at Orono Park, during weekend tournaments; and 3. THAT Mr. Ray Bester, President of Orono Athletic Association be informed of action taken. 1.0 BACKGROUND 1.1 At the September 30, 1996 meeting of Council, correspondence was received from Ray Bester, President of the Orono Athletic Association (attachment #1) requesting consideration to change the parking fee at Orono Park to a picnic fee. Subsequently, the correspondence was referred to the Directors of Community Services and Public Works for review and preparation of a report. 1.2 This issue stems from the fact that on occasion, during the summer, baseball tournaments are booked into Orono Park on weekends. As members of Council are aware, a parking fee is charged for use of the park on weekends and holidays and therefore, anyone entering the park with a vehicle is charged the appropriate fee. 1.3 Upon review of the situation, it appears the concern raised by Mr. Bester is valid. However, it has been the Community Services Department's practice to issue parking passes on request for special occasions, like tournaments where participants are permitted entry at no cost. ../2 flE pEo PAPI L 001 P RECYCLE THIS IS PRIMED W RECYCLED PAPER REPORT CS -10 -96 - 2, NOV. 18 1996 2.0 RECOMMENDATIONS 2.1 Staff is not recommending any changes to the parking fee structure at this time, and further encourage the Orono Athletic Association, to request parking passes at the time of permit application to avoid the parking fee.
