THAT Report CS -48 -94 be received; and 2. THAT Council endorse the request of the Bowmanville Minor Hockey Association to host the Ontario Hockey Federation Midget AA Championships; and 3. THAT Council approve an extension of the ice season at the Darlington Sports Centre to accommodate the tournament; and 4. THAT Paul Jackman, President of the Bowmanville Minor Hockey Association be advised of the action taken by Council. 1.0 BACKGROUND: 1.1 Each year the Ontario Minor Hockey Association hosts various youth hockey championships throughout Ontario in conjunction with the Ontario Hockey Federation. 1.2 As part of the process affiliated Hockey Centres make application to the Ontario Minor Hockey Association for permission to host any one of a number of tournaments conducted each year. 1.3 Staff has been approached by Mr. Paul Jackman, President of the Bowmanville Minor Hockey Association requesting consideration to extend our ice season at the Darlington Sports Centre to accommodate their request to host the Midget AA Championship in Clarington. 1.4 The request for approval is before Council for consideration, because the event would take place one week after the Darlington Sports Centre concludes its ice season. 1.5 Should Council approve this request, staff estimate approximately $1,200.00 of additional operating expenditure would occur. 9 /2 _PEE « E THIS IS PRIEFTED U4 RECYCLED PAPER REPORT CS -48 -94 - 2 - DECEMBER 12, 1994 If approved however, staff will actively market the ice time not required for the tournament to reduce the overall budget impact. 2.0 COMMENT: 2.1 As this tournament invites numerous teams throughout the province, staff view this request as an opportunity to promote our Municipality while providing a benefit to the local economy.
