2.0 OPERATION REVIEW:
2.1 Discussion between staff and Board representatives was intended to keep the Brownsdale
Community Centre active by way of offering its services and facility to the community. Some
of the problems that were identified included a decreasing volunteer base to assist in co-
ordinating and overseeing the Centre's operation and a decrease in the number of Hall
rentals. 2

The focus of the meeting was a "brainstorming" session through which a number of ideas
were generated and recorded for consideration later in the process..
To assist the Centre's Board, the Community Services Department provided information
regarding established fees charged and the services provided by the Department for use of
the Multi- Purpose Room at the Bowmanville Recreation Complex. This information would
allow the Centre's Board to review their own schedule of fees to determine whether or not
they were reflective of the services provided. The Department also made suggestions as to
how the Board could promote the facility with the aim being to increase community
awareness and participation in the Centre's operation. Those in attendance were assured
that the Community Services Department was available to assist the Board achieve their
goals.
In conclusion, the meeting ended on a very positive note in that the Board had a number of
potential resolves to consider. As the attached letter indicates (Attachment 1) the operation
review will proceed as an ongoing process of "continuous evaluation ". The Community
Services Department will continue to be available to assist the Brownsdale Community
Centre Board throughout this process.

Dear Ms. Cooke,
ATTACHMENT 1 TO
REPORT NO. CS -30 -93
Subsequent to our meeting, of September 29, 1993, the Executive of the Brownsdale Community
Centre had a short meeting to decide the outcome of the Hall. The consensus was to take a long
hard look at our receivable and payable monies and see where relevant changes could be made.
As the result of a new recruitment drive, we have a larger volunteer -base and the next step is to
co- ordinate and delegate some of the activities. As all the members of the present executive,
work full -time it is difficult to get the whole group together at one time for a significant
exchange of ideas etc.
A meeting has been set for November 8, 1993. At present, we have a few ideas and plans, but
these need to be discussed by the group, and as soon as we have some definite strategies mapped
out, I shall send you details.
Thank you for your cooperation.
Sincerely,
je" I ►
Fleurette Simmonds
Secretary /Treasurer
Brownsdale Community Centre.
