REPORT .:
2.0 SUMMARY:
2.1 Council has supported this event for the past five years by
donating a gift certificate of $200.00 each year. This money
goes into our local business and advertisement of the prize is
listed in the pre -derby supplement listing and regular issues
of Oshawa - Whitby This Week during the Derby. Staff are
recommending a gift certificate of $200.00 be purchased for
donation as a prize on behalf of the Town of Newcastle.

I am writing regarding the 1993 Oshawa /Whitby This Week Salmon Derby. This year marks
an important milestone -its the 10th Anniversary of this popular event! We extend our
sincere thanks to the Town Of Newcastle and yourself for the support over the years as a
Derby prize donor.
We would appreciate your participation again this year, Marie. Since this is the 10th
Anniversary of the Derby, we plan to promote it even more extensively than in the past.
This increased promotion will result in additional exposure for our sponsors as well.
As in 1992, it will be an 8 week Derby, from Sunday, June 27th to Saturday, August 21st,
1993. Derby profits will be split 50/50 between the Durham Region Anglers' Association (for
their local fish enhancement programs) and the Kids' Fishing Foundation. The
Oshawa /Whitby This Week Salmon Derby also benefits Durham Region by attracting
tourism dollars to this Lake Ontario fishing "hotspot" area.
All things considered, we feel that this investment by your company is an excellent one in
terms of promotional value. We look forward to receiving your appro
