THAT Report C5 -03 -93 be received for information. 1.0 BACKGROUND: 1.1 At a meeting of Council held March 9, 1992, a letter was received from Mrs. Jean Taylor of the 5olina Hall Womens' Institute. Following Council's review of the correspondence, the following resolutions was passed: "THAT the correspondence received from Jean Taylor on behalf of the 5olina Hall accessnto Solina Community Centre Hall, regarding handicapped persons be received; THAT the correspondence be referred to the Community Services Department to liaise with the 5olina Community Hall Board regarding available funding for this project; THAT a report be presented matter; General ad urpose and Administration committee THAT Jean Taylor be advised of Council's decision." 1.2 Since the passing of this resolution, the community Services Department has been in contact with the solina Hall Institute. This report will serve to update Council as to the status of this initiative. ../2 9 () 15 _ 2 _ MARCH 1 , 1993 REPORT NO. C3 °03 -93 2.0 POTENTIAL FUNDING SOURCES 2.1 The Community Services Department has assisted the 5olina Hall Womens' Institute Committee (hereinafter referred n forms as 'the in gathering information and applicati o Committee') the the Province of Ontario's Access Fund coordinated by Office for Disability Issues. The Access Fund is a joint program of the Office for Disability Issues and the Office for Senior Citizens' Affairs of the Ontario Ministry of Citizenship. This grant program is intended' to assist community organizations increase physical access to existing facilities by disabled persons and senior citizens. In the program description, eligible organizations may apply for one third of the approved renovation costs to a maximum of $50,000.00 per project. To be eligible, organizations must be private, non - profit and must have been incorporated Fund or at least one (1) year prior to applying for an Access application has been completed, including all 2.2 The grant app com P appropriate support documentation. The Committee, on the advice of Gord Mills (M-P.P., Durham East) is prepared to submit the application once the Province announces the program (tentatively or March Through this slated for February )• application, the Committee is seeking $20,000-00 in funding support from the Province (total project cost is estimated as $60,000.00). 2.3 The Committee has also submitted an application to the Town of Newcastle's 1993 Municipal Grant program. They have requested that this Municipality fund one -third ($20,000.00) of the total eligible costs. The Committee's application has been processed and is included in the full package of 1993 Municipal Grant applications that have been compiled for Council's consideration during budget deliberations. •./3 ' REPORT NO. CS -03 -93 ® 3 MARCH 1 1993 2.4 The final "funding partner00 that the Committee is investigating is the community - both individuals and businesses. It is the Committee's goal to raise the final $20,000.00 for this project through private and corporate donations. 3.0 COMMENTS: titute has taken on a formidable 3.1 The Solina Hall Womens' Ins task that will involve partnerships with two levels of government and the community -at- large.
