SUBJECT: DURHAM REGION PUBLIC WORKS ASSOCIATION
SNOW PLOW COMPETITION
RECOMMENDATION:
It is respectfully recommended:
1. That this report be received; and,
2. That Council support the Public Works Association in
organizing a Snow Plow Competition for November 2nd,
and 3rd, 1984; and,
3. That all costs associated with the Town's
participation in the snow plow competition be in
accordance with the 1984 Public Works Budget
allocation for Memberships and Association Dues.

REPORT NO. WD -52 -84
The Durham Region Public Works Association is organizing a
snow plow competition to be held at the Region's
Oshawa /Whitby Depot on November 2nd, and 3rd, 1984. The
competition is to be open to the members of the association
and is designed to determine, through a series of
competitive tests, the competing team's knowlege of rules of
the road, safety, altertness, and efficiency as well as
their skill in handling a standard snow plow equipped
vehicle, through a marked course.
For many years truck rodeos have provided the opportunity
for professional drivers to be recognized for their
expertise. The Durham Public Works Association is
initiating the snow plow competition to provide friendly
competition among Municipalities and to promote public
awareness of the professionals involved in Public Works
activities. In future, the event is expected to be held
during Public Works Week.

It is, therefore, recommended that the Town of Newcastle
support the efforts of those involved in organizing the
Durham Public Works Association Snow Plow Competition.
