REPORT NO. WD -59 -84
BACKGROUND:
On May 14, 1984, Council received correspondence from Durham
Regional Police in respect to the implementation of a
Community Neighbourhood Watch Program in the Waverley
Gardens Area. Staff were requested to review the
correspondence with respect to signing locations and costs.
REPORT:
Public Works Staff have discussed the Community
Neighbourhood Watch Program with members of the Durham
Regional Police Community Services Division and
representatives of the Waverley Gardens Group and recommend
that the Standard M.T.C. approved neighbourhood watch signs,
G25B, be installed by the Public Works Department in the
following locations:
1. Waverley Road north of Regional Road 57
2. Roenigk Drive south of Highway 2
3. Spry Avenue north of Baseline Road.
These locations have been chosen as they best serve the
Waverley Gardens Neighbourhood Watch Community.
It is recommended that the Public Works Department
accommodate the installation of the Neighbourhood Watch
Signs. Existing utility poles or sign posts will be used
where possible to maintain a uniform, aethesically
acceptable roadside.

REPORT NO. WD -59 -84
Labour and equipment costs for the installation is estimated
at $25.00 per sign. All costs are to be in accordance with
the approved Public Works Budget for Street Signs. However,
the purchase price of the signs through bulk purchasing is
expected to be slightly less than $25.00 per sign. The
Public Works Department will purchase the signs through bulk
purchasing arrangements with other municipalities in the
Region and invoice the Neighbourhood Watch Group for
associated costs. The sign purchase and installation is not
eligible for subsidy in the Town's subsidy for traffic
signs.
The G25B signs to be used are in accordance with the
Ministry of Transportation and Communication's Directive
C -152 for Neighbourhood Watch Program Signing and have the
approved blue Neighbourhood Watch Program Logo as shown in
the attached sketch.
Respectfully submitted,
f ,
R.G. Dupu s, P. Eng.,
Director of Public Works.
