REPORT NO.: WD -59 -84 SUBJECT: NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH PROGRAM WAVERLEY GARDENS - SIGNING RECOMMENDATION: It is respectfully recommended: 1. That this report be received; and, 2. That the Town supply the necessary labour and material to install Ministry of Transportation & Communications approved Neighbourhood Watch Program Signs; and, 3. That the Neighbourhood Watch groups be required to supply the necessary signs; and, 4. That all Town costs associated with the installation be in accordance with the annual approved Public Works Budget for Street Signs. ....2 2 Page 2 REPORT NO. WD -59 -84 BACKGROUND: On May 14, 1984, Council received correspondence from Durham Regional Police in respect to the implementation of a Community Neighbourhood Watch Program in the Waverley Gardens Area. Staff were requested to review the correspondence with respect to signing locations and costs. REPORT: Public Works Staff have discussed the Community Neighbourhood Watch Program with members of the Durham Regional Police Community Services Division and representatives of the Waverley Gardens Group and recommend that the Standard M.T.C. approved neighbourhood watch signs, G25B, be installed by the Public Works Department in the following locations: 1. Waverley Road north of Regional Road 57 2. Roenigk Drive south of Highway 2 3. Spry Avenue north of Baseline Road. These locations have been chosen as they best serve the Waverley Gardens Neighbourhood Watch Community. It is recommended that the Public Works Department accommodate the installation of the Neighbourhood Watch Signs. Existing utility poles or sign posts will be used where possible to maintain a uniform, aethesically acceptable roadside. ...3 Page 3 REPORT NO. WD -59 -84 Labour and equipment costs for the installation is estimated at $25.00 per sign. All costs are to be in accordance with the approved Public Works Budget for Street Signs. However, the purchase price of the signs through bulk purchasing is expected to be slightly less than $25.00 per sign. The Public Works Department will purchase the signs through bulk purchasing arrangements with other municipalities in the Region and invoice the Neighbourhood Watch Group for associated costs. The sign purchase and installation is not eligible for subsidy in the Town's subsidy for traffic signs. The G25B signs to be used are in accordance with the Ministry of Transportation and Communication's Directive C -152 for Neighbourhood Watch Program Signing and have the approved blue Neighbourhood Watch Program Logo as shown in the attached sketch.
